A Baseball: 1st Grade
A Baseball is designed as a transition for 1st graders with some knowledge of rules or with a year of T-Ball experience. The coach pitches to his/her own team the entire game, from a designated spot (usually in front of the regular pitching mound). Fundamentals are the focal point. An agreed upon number of coaches are allowed on the field and the pitching coach acts as the umpire. The goal is to get all the kids swinging aggressively at the ball. Generally, most kids are ready to move on to AA Baseball after one year of playing A ball. The season lasts from April through mid-June.
"A" practices are typically Thursday and Saturdays with 2 practices to start. Once games begin, the coaches usually have one practice and 2 games. "A" games are usually on Wednesdays/Thursdays at 5:30 and Saturdays at 10 am
AA Baseball: 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade
AA Baseball is the next level of transition in the average child's development. Kids can play two years at the AA level. In AA ball there is a mixture of pitching machines, coach pitch, and player pitch. As always, the emphasis is on fundamental skills, including pitching, and the players begin to develop the ability to hit competitive pitching from an opposing player. Typically the season begins with machine pitch with a transition to player pitch as the season progresses. The season lasts from April through mid-June.
AA Teams usually start with 2 practices per week and then as games get into full swing, practices may be just once per week. Games are typically played 2 x per week on Tuesdays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 3pm or noon.
